Time Zone Boundaries and Daylight Savings - N. America
Time Zones, and their boundary lines, are established by Federal statute. While most of the time zone division lines fall on county boundaries, a number do not. The exceptions fall along township and section boundaries as defined by the Public Land Survey System. It is also true that the beginning and ending dates for the observance of Daylight Savings Time are established by statute. Certain states and certain counties decline to observe Daylight Savings Time. This mapped table records each county in the U.S. where a county is split by a time zone boundary. The table records the Time Zone for each part of the split county separately and whether Daylight Savings Time is observed.
Two additional MapInfo Tables define the boundaries of time zones in Canada (TzCanada) and in Mexico and the northern Caribbean (TzMexCrb). Just as in the U.S. Time Zones table, the observation of Daylight Savings Time (or non-observation) is included for each boundary.
Unlike the US Time Zones table, in which each county is a separate row in the table and a separate map object, in these tables the rows and map objects are an entire time zone. But if part of a time zone observes Daylight Savings Time and another part does not, there are two boundaries for that zone (and two separate rows in the table).
