STI: WorkPlace

Synergos Technologies, Inc., (STI) an innovator of timely and accurate consumer data
products for retailers, provides updated quarterly releasees of STI: Workplace, the retail industry's first and only quarterly workplace population estimates. This product, was launched in April 2004 as a powerful complement to Synergos Technologies' flagship product, STI: PopStats, the company's quarterly population estimates.

Unlike other workplace demographic products, STI: Workplace counts not only how many businesses are located in a particular market and how many people are employed in each market, but also the employees' occupations and salary levels. STI: Workplace's combination of unique data sources, quarterly updates, and a one-of-a-kind "bottom-up" methodology, which starts at the neighborhood level and works up to the market level, ensures that this workplace
demographic product delivers powerful research advantages to today's high-growth retailers.

"Historically, workplace estimates have been one of the most underutilized demographic tools in the retail industry, because market researchers have been dissatisfied with the products that were available," says Robert Welch, President of Synergos Technologies. "Now STI: Workplace delivers the accurate workplace counts they need, so retailers can apply workplace demographic numbers to their market research projects with greater confidence and improved result."

The Market Potential for an area is a measure of expected retail expenditure. This expenditure potential estimate represents the total annual dollars that are likely to be spent on retail merchandise by an area's households.

Our suppliers developed this proprietary modeled database containing current year estimates and five-year projections for United States consumer buying patterns (household expenditure potential). The Market Potential database product generates expenditure potential for any geographic or geometric area in the U.S. An expenditure potential estimate represents the dollar amount of retail purchases made by persons living within an area, regardless of where such purchases are made.

Market Potential has expenditure estimates for 325 unduplicated product categories and 32 store types.

The Market Potential for an area is a measure of expected retail expenditure. This expenditure potential estimate represents the total annual dollars that are likely to be spent on retail merchandise by an area's households. Expenditure potential is not actual retail sales; rather, it is an estimate of retail sales. Expenditure potential and actual retail sales are generally not equal for the following reasons:

Using Market Potential, you can estimate expenditure potential for small geographic areas, which can then be compared to actual experience.

PSYTE classifies U.S. neighborhoods into 65 unique lifestyle segments developed through statistical clustering methods. Based on the concept that people tend to live near others who share similar demographic attributes and lifestyles, these clusters are groups of households with similar purchasing and behavior patterns. Knowing which clusters people reside within provides a reasonable means of understanding and predicting how they will behave as consumers.

Each descriptive segment or "cluster" represents a neighborhood type with a population that shares similar demographics, pyschographics, and distinct product and service consumption patterns. The clusters were developed using 1990 block-level demographics as well as historical product usage, lifestyle and media data from a variety of sources.

PSYTE is a segmentation system that helps marketers identify and target their best customers to help find new ones like them.

LandScape: A New View of Consumers - their "Attitudes"

For decades, retailers have used socio-economic-based market segmentation tools to identify "who" their customers are demographically and "where" they live geographically. While this information remains critical to site selection and other strategic consumer-focused business decisions, new business challenges and pressures have sent companies in search of even more precise consumer measurement tools.

Along with the general socio-economic attributes, each household also has a set of attitudes that significantly influence its residents' buying habits. For example, one household may be the first to purchase new technology, while another may wait years to adopt. STI: LandScape identifies these "attitudinal" factors, which influence consumers' purchasing decisions - including everything from their physical activity levels to their propensity to support a political candidate. In this way, STI: LandScape brings a uniquely human element to traditional market segmentation research.
